The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date is a timeless classic. A symbol of Rolex’s know-how and prestige, since 1956 it has witnessed the greatest moments in history, on the wrists of visionaries, virtuosos and pioneers. The example we have selected is a Day-Date reference 18238 made in 1993. In this watch we find all the elements that have made and continue to make this timepiece the most worn and loved: a water-resistant 36 millimetres “Oyster” case, a fluted bezel, a “President” bracelet (in 18-carat yellow gold), a date window at 3 o’clock and an extended weekday display at 6 o’clock. Compared to its 4-digit predecessors (references 6510, 6611, 1803, 1811), it has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The elegant white dial is complemented by baton hands and applied yellow gold hour markers/logo and bears the inscription “T Swiss Made T” in which tritium is highlighted.
At its heart is the solid calibre 3155, which accompanies the 18200 and 18300 series and offers for the first time a quick adjustment of both the date and the day of the week. The balance wheel of the 3155 movement oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (A/h) and boasts a 48-hour power reserve.
The overall conditions are very good: the dial is like new while the case, lugs, case back (with the original green stamp) and bracelet show almost imperceptible signs of use. Between the lugs are visible the serial and reference and on the case-back all the original hallmarks. The watch comes with its original box and papers.
