Description
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is the watch that transcends the definition of “timepiece” and has become a true icon. What makes it legendary? its name, inextricably linked to the famous 24 Hours of Daytona racing circuit, its design as sporty as it is minimalist, and the illustrious figures who have had it on their wrists. The example we have selected is a Rolex Daytona Reference 6263 “Big Red”, dated 1980.
This reference inherits the traits of its predecessors (references 6241 and 6240): 37mm “Oyster” case, Plexi Tropic crystal, bakelite bezel with white tachymetric scale (introduced with the 6241), screw-down pushers (introduced with the 6240), 7.00 millimetres twin-lock crown (which replaces the previous 6.00 millimetres ones) and “Oyster” bracelet reference 78350 with 571 end links. The configuration of its dial with its black background, white lettering and counters is one of the most iconic and boasts the nickname “reverse panda”. Also on the dial are the inscriptions “Oyster” between Rolex and Cosmograph at 12 o’clock and “Daytona” at the top of the hour counter at 6 o’clock. The inscription “Oyster” between Rolex and Cosmograph refers to the water-resistance characteristics obtained thanks to the adoption of the twinlock crown and screw-down pushers, while the oversized red inscription “Daytona” underlines the presence of a correct and original dial production.
Inside is the hand-wound Rolex calibre 727 (derived from the Valjoux 72) which replaces the 722-1. The movement has 17 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 alternations per hour (A/h), column wheel and 48-hour power reserve.
The overall condition is very good, all parts are correct and original and the watch is accompanied by the exclusive WATCH INSANITYset.
