Description

Since 2011, Patek Philippe’s flagship perpetual calendar chronograph has been the ref. 5270, a watch whose design can be traced back to arguably the Genevan brand’s most legendary reference, the 1518. The reference 5270 marked a milestone for Patek Philippe when it was announced, initially in white gold, because it was the first time the Maison had created a perpetual calendar chronograph with an entirely in-house caliber. Previously, up until the ref. 5970, Patek had in fact used the supplied ebauches as the basis for all its perpetual calendar chronographs.

The ref. 5270J in question is from 2022 and features the sophisticated look and timeless style that have been typical of the ref. 5270 since its inception, with the elegant juxtaposition of the concave bezel with the knurled lugs of the bracelet. The argenté opaline dial with gold applied indexes stands out for its readability, with the small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and the position at 6 o’clock occupied by the moon phases and date with a hand indicating the day of the month. The perpetual calendar is complemented by the large date windows at 12 o’clock and the leap year indicator at 4:30.

The yellow gold case measures 41 mm in diameter and 12.4 mm thick and houses the manual calibre CH 29-535 PS Q, characterised by a traditional architecture, six patented innovations and an incredibly flat calendar mechanism that helps to optimally contain the thickness of the watch. The calibre works at 28,800 vibrations/hour and has a power reserve ranging from 55 to 65 hours, depending on the type of use. The general condition of the watch is NOS and the set is complete.
