Description
The Saxonia collection is A. Lange & Söhne’s most diverse line. Introduced in 1994, for years it has featured watches ranging in size from 34 to 40 mm, with manual and automatic movements, timepieces that were the most understated of the Saxon brand at least until the arrival of the 1815 models. Since the collection takes its name from the German region where the brand is based, one would expect it to pay homage to the past, but over the years it has become a mix of tradition and innovation, with a modern design.
The Ref. 216.021 proposed here is part of the third generation of the Saxonia, introduced in 2011, which was discontinued in 2015 after only four years; the watch in question dates back to approximately 2011. It features a yellow gold case and a champagne dial. The case measures 37 mm, a size introduced in the second generation of the Saxonia, dating back to 2007; It was originally smaller and measured 34 mm. Compared to previous generations, the most obvious difference is in the indexes, which in this reference are linked together and not isolated; furthermore, perhaps to counterbalance the now more crowded dial, the double-baton indexes of the 15-30-45 quarters have been replaced by single indexes.
The watch is powered by the manual caliber L941.1 with 21,600 vibrations/hour and 45 hours of power reserve. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, it features high-end watchmaking finishes and the classic three-quarter plate, typical of Saxon watchmaking.
The overall condition of the watch is excellent and it comes with the A. Lange & Söhne archive extract and Watch Insanity packaging. This Saxonia is equipped with an alligator leather strap with a yellow gold buckle.
