Description
Double-face watches have a special appeal, due in part to the sophistication of their mechanics, and in part to the fascinating feeling they give of possessing something unique and secret on their back dial, visible only to those who own and wear them. It is clear that certain mechanical feats are the prerogative of only a few exclusive brands capable of achieving them. Such is the case with Franck Muller, whose Chronograph Double Face Ref. 2870 NA DF we offer.
Dating from around the year 2000, this chronograph features a beautiful and compact 37 mm platinum case and a classic look on the front dial. The leaf-shaped hands and applied Roman numeral hour markers are blued, and the three-counter configuration sees the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and the small seconds counter at 9 o’clock. The beauty of this chronograph, which bears the progressive number 0 on the case back, lies in the back dial, which features three scales: pulsometric, telemetric and tachometric, which can be consulted through a single central hand. The reading of the scales is related to the portion of the dial and hand that each occupies, and are mirrored compared to how they would be positioned in a traditional chronograph. This is to make it possible to read the scales with the back hand, which, being connected to the main dial hand, moves counterclockwise rather than clockwise.
Working in the case is a hand-wound Lemania caliber 1872 with 21,600 vibrations per hour and about 40 hours of autonomy. The overall condition of the watch is excellent and the set comes complete with original box and papers. The chronograph has a black leather strap with a platinum buckle signed Franck Muller.
