Description
Calendars represent the watches with the most fascinating aesthetics, encapsulating the sum of ancient knowledge about astronomy. They combine utility with features of the highest order, both in terms of the study of the mechanisms and the graphic research behind the creation of the dial, which is designed to clearly indicate the different subdivisions of time appearing on it.
Audemars Piguet has developed some of the most interesting and famous models existing on the vintage market today, one of which is the Quantième Perpétuel reference BA5548, here offered in a reference from 1980. Its complex architecture is designed to provide information on day, date, month and moon phases, while also taking leap years into account. The counters are distributed to optimize readability: at 12 o’clock the months, at 3 o’clock the days of the month, at 6 o’clock the moon phases, and at 9 o’clock the days of the week. The porcelain dial is embraced by a 36 mm 18-karat yellow gold case, in which beats the Audemars Piguet Caliber 2120/2800 automatic movement – derived from Jaeger Lecoultre’s ultra-flat Caliber 920. For this line, Audemars Piguet reworked the 920 to include the perpetual calendar complication and a 21-carat yellow gold rotor.
The overall condition is excellent, with the dial, case, lugs, crown, and case back showing no obvious signs of wear. The watch is fitted with the original leather strap with yellow gold buckle, which is accompanied by the exclusive WATCH INSANITY signature set.
