Passione Caracciola with IWC Schaffhausen

For the third time IWC Schaffhausen is the partner of the Passione Caracciola vintage car rally. Born to commemorate the renowned pilot from the 20’s and 30’s Otto Wilhelm Rudolf Caracciola, Passione Caracciola is a regularity rally open to every vintage car brand or model for a maximum of 58 crews. Every year car enthusiasts from all over the world find each other to race, together with their automobiles, different routes that retrace Caracciola’s dearest locations. 2017’s event started from Milan and ended in Lugano passing through Monza, St. Moritz, Davos and Arosa.

A parade of all the participating cars started the Rally in front of the IWC Boutique in Via Montenapoleone, Milan. The same “Wednesday 21^st of June” during the welcome aperitivo, together with all the rally crews and IWC’s CEO Christoph Grainger-Herr, the Schaffhausen manufacture presented the new Ingenieur collection.

But that’s not all… Luckily the Watch Insanity crew took part of it! And now we can tell you what happened next.

The day after, together with other IWC guests, we experienced a true rally environment at the F1 Monza racing track, driving historical cars like the Mercedes 190 SLR. Sitting behind the wheel of those marvels, with the new IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Sport “50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG” on the wrist, we practiced driving techniques during the regularity competition. Traveling a circuit (including also the legendary Monza’s parabolic turn!) divided in different trials, we took the times using the function chronograph and flyback of the new Ingenieur. An experience that might look simple, but it’s truly unique! A team work between pilot and navigator where the time is in the hands of both.

The new IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Sport “50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG” has a 44mm case, silver dial and black leather strap, and encloses the self winding caliber IWC 89361. On the dial at 12 o’clock we can find counter of chronograph’s hours and minutes, at 6 o’clock the counter of the small seconds; while the big central red hand measured the seconds of the chronograph on a speedometer scale (on the rehaut) that allows to calculate the average speed on a 1000 meters gap.

Water resistant up to 100 meters, this special edition is limited only to 250 pieces and available in all the IWC boutiques at € 13,300.
