Panerai: New Radiomir California 47mm & Radiomir 8 Days 45mm
19 November 2019Panerai presents two new references in the Radiomir collection. Radiomir California – 47 mm (PAM00931) and Radiomir 8 Days – 45 mm (PAM00992), a pair of original watches of an epic diver model, which started the whole Panerai story. A project born in 1936 at the specific request of the Command of the Submarine Group of the Italian Royal Navy for the commandos of the Assault Vehicle Flotilla.
Clearly designed to evoke the most heroic activities of the brand, the two new Radiomir have in-house mechanical movements of the latest generation, hand-wound and entirely developed in the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel.
Extremely reliable and robust calibres starting from the P.3000, chosen for the Radiomir California – 47 mm (PAM00931), 161⁄2 lignes with 3 days of power reserve and supplied by two spring barrels in series. This model stands out for a shaded brown dial with minutes track, roman and arabic numerals and marker in beige Super-Luminova with green luminescence and flame-blued hands. The case, for the first time, is made of AISI 316L stainless steel with aged patina effect is completed with a steel bezel, Plexiglas crystal and sapphire crystal porthole. On this model there is no reference to the maker on the dial, a fundamental condition for an instrument which at the time was covered by military secrecy. (Price € 8.500)
Some of these details, like the case processing, are also used to contribute to the vintage identity of the Radiomir 8 Days – 45 mm (PAM00992). This reference, combined with sapphire crystal, it’s provided with a sandwich dial, arabic numerals, small seconds at 9 o’clock and the the words “8 giorni brevettato” at 3 o’clock. Inside, the caliber P.5000, 151⁄2 lignes with two spring barrels guarantees a power reserve of eight days. (Available exclusively in the Panerai boutiques – Price € 8.300)
Water-resistant to 100 metres, the new Radiomir watches are aesthetically enhanced by an oiled dark brown calf leather strap with beige sewing with a trapezoid buckle and a clasp forged of the same steel as the case.
