12 January 2023Created in the late 2000s to revive a part of the brand’s culture, the Oris Movement Creation Programme evolves with an innovative hand-wound “the tenth” caliber with a five-day power reserve, elevated anti-magnetism and a 10-year warranty.
From the outset, the programme brief was clear. Oris movements had to be distinctly Oris. Which meant? Purely mechanical and Swiss Made, with unique functions and performance, and at prices that make sense to today’s world citizen. Our vision remains to create beautiful mechanical watches and original, purpose-driven movements that bring joy to people who love mechanics.
THE NEW CALIBRE 473
Today, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Oris Movement Creation Programme, the brend unveils the new Big Crown Calibre 473. For the first time in decades, the Big Crown Pointer Date is powered by a hand-wound Oris movement.
The story of Calibre 473 is that it’s built on the same base as the Oris Calibre 403 automatic. So it has hour, minute, small seconds and pointer date hands, and a five-day power reserve, now shown by a 120-hour power reserve indicator visible on the back through the sapphire crystal case back.
As with Calibre 400 Series movements, Calibre 473 also has elevated levels of anti- magnetism, and each watch powered by it will come with a 10-year warranty and 10-year recommended service intervals.
In production for more than 80 years, the iconic design of the Big Crown Pointer Date characterized by an oversized crown designed for aviators and a pointer date calendar remains virtually unchanged; 38mm steel case, hour markers, numerals and hands printed with Super-LumiNova, double-sided curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and screw-in securety crown crown for guaranteed water resistance to 5 bar.
In addition to the caliber, new features of this version include a light blue dial color and a steel butterfly folding clasp equipped with a precision adjustment system paired with an olive-brown strap crafted from sustainably sourced deer leather produced by Oris’s Swiss partner Cervo Volante.
