Mister X: Patek Philippe “Chrono Passion”
28 July 2017After every Mister X, there’s always one question: who will be the next watch lover and what will be his timepieces? This time our secret collector truly astonished us… He’s a vintage watch aficionado with a series of Patek Philippe that makes jealous the Patek Philippe Museum itself.
We are talking about 4 Patek Philippe Chrono from the 40’s and 50’s, rare art pieces preserved in perfect condition.
In front of all that beauty and see the young age of Mister X, the question we all asked was: How did your love for high watchmaking start, and where did you find those masterpieces? He disclosed this is a passion passed on by his father who gifted him one of those timepieces at the age of 18; “I was watching and hearing my father talking about watches very often, but I was not really interested, but when I owned one everything changed… It took a while to understand the “value” and the meaning, but once appreciated I started to read and learn, and then to buy.”
Let’s analyse the collection one by one starting from the older piece; it’s a Patek Philippe Chrono “Ref.130” with two rounded rectangular pushers. The 32mm round case is in steel made in three parts, carrure with snap shutting back bezel and cover. Two toned dial “mat” in silver with enamelled inscriptions, baton index beside the 12 and the 6, 1/5 seconds graduation, tachymeter scale, and counter of the 30 minutes of the chronograph. The 13’’’ manual winding movement no.860489 has vague de Geneve finishing, closed monometallic balance wheel with compensating screws, Breguet spring, and index to regulate the timing.
The second is a Patek Philippe again Ref.130 but in yellow gold 18k from the 40’s. Chronograph with two convex rectangular buttons, 33mm round case in 3 parts: carrure with snap shutting bezel and back cover. Mat silver dial with applied Breguet numerals, tachymeter scale, counter of the 30 minutes of the chronograph, and 1/5 second graduations. The inscriptions on the dial are stove enameled, and has gold spade style hours and minutes hands, while the chronograph hands are in blued steel. 13’’’ manual winding movement no.863413 with vague de Geneve finishing, closed monometallic balance wheel with compensating screws, Breguet spring, index to regulate the timing with micrometric register and swan neck spring.
The third is a Chrono “Ref.1579” with two rectangular pushers, 26mm yellow gold 18k case in 3 parts, carrure, back side, and snap shutting bezel. White dial with applied pyramid style index, except the 12 and the 6, tachymeter scale, counter of the 30 minutes of the chronograph, and 1/5 second graduations. Gold hours and minutes hands, blued steel chronograph hands, and stove enameled dial inscriptions. 13’’’ manual winding movement no.868202 with vague de Geneve finishing, bevelled satinized levers, bi-metallic balance wheel with compensating screws, Breguet spring, index to regulate the timing with micrometric register and swan neck spring.
The fourth and last watch of this amazing collection is a 50’s Patek Philippe “Ref.1463” chronograph with round buttons. The case is in rose gold 18k with 35mm diameter, the brown dial has applied Breguet numerals, tachymetric scale, counter of the 30 minutes of the chronograph and 1/5 second graduations.
