Mister X: IWC Portugieser “PISA Edition”

It’s Monday 3th of February and we find ourselves at Pisa Orologeria, in Milan, to start the “It’s Not Complicated” project.

“Began from the collaboration between Pisa Orologeria and Watch Insanity, It’s Not Complicated is an experiential project addressed to the young watchmaking enthusiasts and collectors that wants to know more about High Watchmaking”

Together with Fabio Bertini we host an anonymous collector, that we will call Mister X. With our guest we’ll examine in depth history and characteristics of a very particular watch, part of his private collection. Particular for two reasons: first because it’s a limited edition, second because it’s a watch dedicated to Pisa Orologeria… the IWC Portugieser Pisa edition.

IWC Portugieser Pisa

The IWC Pisa had been produced in a series of 50 pieces between 1996 and 1997 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company after World War II, and the first 50 years of partnership with IWC.

The manufacture movement with manual winding is enclosed in a 42mm steel case. The dial, inspired by IWC’s pocket watches, has blue numerals that perfectly match the leaf hands, blued with burnish technique, and the Pisa logo applied on it. Thank to this characteristic reading the time is instantaneous. And the lack of further complications in the movement is justified to ensure practicality and essential technical features.

Pisa had clear in mind a precise type of client when they conceived this limited edition: a resolute and pragmatic man, loyal to elegant aesthetic standards, that makes use of the timepiece as a functional instrument. Easiness and rapidity of reading the time explains the particular shade of the dial of our Portugieser. The same need led to the choice of a simple caliber, without complications, that can be worn in every occasion. This watch embodies the spirit of the first Portugieser: a reliable timepiece, strong and precise.

Our Mister X is a great traveler, and he purchased the Portugieser Pisa because of the above mentioned characteristics. He wears it still today when abroad, and he is very happy to have on the wrist his reliable timepiece.

In 2015 Pisa and IWC carried on their partnership celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Milanese retailer and the 75th anniversary of the Portugieser watch, with a limited edition of 25 pieces. The Portugieser Annual Calendar Pisa Edition marks the time of a history that keeps fascinating worldwide collectors.
