Jaquet Droz: Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel

Whoever knows the history of the well-known Swiss brand understands how important the 8 is for its artisans. Lucky number of Jaquet Droz in person, many elements of the timepieces are actually a reference to this meaningful symbol, representing eternity and the infinite. The whole Grande Seconde collection in fact pays homage to this number, being an evergreen that breaks the rules of the watchmaking industry at the same time. In this series models, the dial is unique and shows two decentred counters, one at 12 o’clock to mark hours and minutes, the other at 6 o’clock, dedicated to seconds.

Two circles blend, Arab and Roman numerals meet, features show you hours, minutes, seconds, date and even moon phases in a 43mm diameter for a touch of magic. As a matter of fact, the key trait of the Moon Black Enamel is the representation of the nocturnal satellite, quarter after quarter, within a precious dial.

Not only the advanced mechanics, but also the search for the most exclusive materials makes Jaquet Droz stand out. The lucky owner of the Moon Black Enamel won’t wear just a watch, yet a truly extraordinary jewel that time can’t erode. The new Swiss-made timepiece is the first model of the Grande Seconde collection to be embellished by a Grand Feu black enamel dial, Jaquet Droz’s real distinguishing feature. The hand-crafted strap is in black rolled-edge alligator, tied by an 18-carat red gold clasp – the same precious metal you can find in the case and in the dial star decorations. But the true masterpiece is the moon, central element of the model concept, where craftmanship and design create a rarely beautiful piece of watchmaking. The 22-carat gold moon is overshadowed by a black onyx disk, quarter after quarter. The automatic winding movement – true mechanical engineering artwork itself – is almost indestructible thanks to the silicon and the extremely accurate lunar complication, which only needs to be calibrated every 122 years. Basically, a lifelong watch.
