My passion for François-Paul Journe is not a novelty for our readers, and I already talked about the Tourbillon Souverain here.
One of the most important characteristics of F.P. Journe’s collection is that his watches rarely become out of date, and the perfect example is the Chronomètre Souverain that we could see in Milan at the F.P. Journe Espace by GMT -Great Masters of Time-.
F.P. Journe launched the Chronomètre Souverain in 2005 – yes, this beauty is 13 years old!– with the aim to add something completely new to his lines.
For the first time the Master introduced a Guilloché Silver dial, which is paired with his unmistakable blue steel hands indicating hours and minutes, for the first time in the center. Small seconds are positioned between 7 and 8 o’clock, and power reserve at 3 o’clock.
Press and collectors went literally crazy for The Chronomètre Souverain, which has been immediately awarded with the GPHG’s (Grand Prix d’Horologerie de Geneve) Best Men’s Watch prize in the same year.
Underneath the pure and apparently simple dial beats the Calibre 1304, inspired by 19th Century Marine Chronometers.
The two twin central barrels, enclosing each one a low-power spring, provides a stable 56 hours power reserve, while the crown is in the same axis of the escapement. This very classic construction of the movement is another François-Paul ‘s tribute to the Traditional High Watchmaking from the past.
The movement is in solid rose gold, hand decorated with Perlage and Cotes de Geneve.
The Chronomètre Souverain is available with Platinum or Rose gold 40mm case, and with five different dial combinations: Silver, Gold, Havana, available in all the official retailers; Mother of Pearl, Boutique Edition, and Black Label, available only through the Boutiques and the Espaces F.P.Journe.
