Chanel: Boy-friend Skeleton
31 October 2018Three years ago, Chanel unveiled its Boy-friend watch, a clean and intriguing take on a “masculine” watch for women, a best-seller since its launch. Since then, the Parisian Maison launched various iterations of the style from tweed inspired straps to full diamond pavé dials.
At Baselworld 2018 Chanel made a step forward by equipping the Boy-friend watch with its brand new Calibre 3, the third in-house movement from the brand following from the Monsieur Calibre 1 and the Première Camélia Skeleton Calibre 2. After three years of development, this third in-house movement was designed to be beautiful at any angle.
Floating in its octagonal beige gold case, it features a series of interlinked, vertically aligned circles. The mirror-polished beige gold chamfering emphasizes the movement’s depth. The bridges are at the back, allowing the watch’s beating heart to stand out.
The case and the bezel are in 18K beige gold, as well as the crown with onyx cabochon. The Calibre 3 is a manual-winding mechanical movement, displaying hours, minutes and seconds with a power reserve of 55 hours. With 114 components and 21 rubies, the movement is oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour (4Hz).
In Chanel’s Boyfriend Skeleton watch the Calibre 3 is hosted in the trademark bold octagon case that distinguishes all Boy-friend watches. The black coating of ADLC (Amorphous Diamond-Like Carbon) on its plates and bridges gives the design even more depth as it plays off the metallic beige gold details on the chamfers and lower circular plate.
The timepiece is available in a plain gold version as well as with a diamond studded bezel, both with a black alligator strap with beige gold ardillon buckle.
