MB&F: HM7 Aquapod Green
10 September 2018Finally, this summer we had the chance to try the new MB&F HM7 Aquapod “Green”. We already talked about the Aquapod last year when it was presented for the first time in red gold with black ceramic bezel and in titanium with blue ceramic bezel.
Today the HM7 is unveiled in green. A new version with a spherical titanium grade 5 case and green sapphire crystal bezel.
Inspired by the jellyfish, the design of the HM7 Aquapod is definitely unique and modern! A spherical and three-dimensional architecture gives at the glance a perfect 360° view of the hours and minutes indications on the two spherical discs and the central 60 seconds flying tourbillon.
The case of HM7 Aquapod is basically a three-dimensional sandwich comprising two hemispheres of sapphire crystal on either side of a case band. The unidirectional bezel floats outside the case, while dual crowns are located between the two structures: the one on the left is for winding the movement and the crown on the right is for setting the time.
While HM7 is not a dive watch, it is a timepiece comfortably at home in the water until 50m. So MB&F added the one element that all serious aquatic watches possess, a unidirectional rotating bezel. However, unlike every other dive watch, Aquapod’s bezel isn’t attached to the case, but floats apart like a life buoy. In order to obtain the perfect colour for the green edition, a sapphire crystal ring is inserted in the bezel; numbers and markets are metalized under the sapphire crystal, along with a layer of green lacquer.
While HM7 Aquapod is as contemporary as could be, the concept of the movement architecture made in-house by MB&F is centuries old, originating in the pocket watches popular in the 18th century. From bottom to top, the winding rotor, mainspring barrel, hour and minute indications, and flying tourbillon are all concentrically mounted around the central axis. Energy travels from the rotor at the very bottom of the movement to the flying tourbillon regulator at the very top via gearing acting like a series of stairs, allowing power to transition from one level to the next. This concentric architecture allows for the hours and minutes to be displayed around the periphery of the movement
The new MB&F HM7 Aquapod “green” is a limited edition to only 50 pieces and is available at the price of €.116.000,00 (VAT included) at the GMT – Great Masters of Time boutique in Milan.
