IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition 76th Members’ Meeting at Goodwood

“Women and engines, joys and sorrows”: says an old (but always gold) Italian proverb. This does not apply for watches, which instead have been always going along with roaring racing cars motors. Great pilots always wore nice timepieces, chosen because of their personal style or a partnership with a brand.

It is to pursue the connection between watchmaking and automotive that IWC Schaffhausen decided to be timing partner of the 76° Goodwood Members’ Meeting. We hereby present you the latest addition among the Ingenieur family: the Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition “76th Members’ Meeting at Goodwood” (Ref. IW381201), limited to 176 numbered pieces!

This historical meeting takes place in South England, not far from London, in the lands of Lord March. During the event, exclusively reserved to the members of BARC (British Automobile Racing Club), legendary classic cars and motorbikes, from the 1920’s onwards, compete on the racetrack.

Surrounded by the typical English rainy weather, a parade of classic motorbikes welcomed the guests during the gala dinner in Lord March’s residence, roaring through the main entrance.

After the gala, IWC introduced the new Ingenieur, alongside with the IWC Racing Team, becoming the first watch brand competing in classic car racings with its own team and car. Great protagonist was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing”, the sports car which doors reminds of seagull’s wings. The car has been chosen by IWC because it was produced in the same years of the first IWC Ingenieur, between 1954 and 1957. Next to the iconic sport car, the champion David Coulthard and Carmen Jordá, GP3 pilot. The next day Coulthard debuted in the Salvadori Cup, competition dedicated to racing cars produced between 1955 and 1960, conquering the 9th place.

The Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition “76th Members’ Meeting at Goodwood” encloses a classic column-wheel chronographic movement, powered by the IWC-manufactured 69380 caliber, featuring a pawl-winding system and a 46-hour power reserve. The 44mm case is made of titanium and it has a soft-iron inner cage, which protects the movement from magnetic fields. The silver-plated dial, the black sub-dials, the black hands coated with luminescence, and the blue chronograph hands creates incredible contrasts on the dial. The movement is visible through a sapphire-glass back and its shape is spired by a disc brake. Fitted with a black calfskin strap featuring blue seams, it is imprinted with “76”, commemorating this year’s edition of the Goodwood Members’ Meeting.
