Audemars Piguet: Royal Oak RD#2 Perpetual Calendar Ultra Thin

Perpetual calendar complication and ultra-thin meet in the brand new Royal Oak RD#2 in Platinum. The extraordinary timepiece was unveiled for the first time at SIHH 2018 as a prototype, while Audemars Piguet plans to launch it commercially next year.

It has taken five years to develop the new ultra-thin 5133 calibre, the thinnest selfwinding perpetual calendar on the market today. The Royal Oak RD#2’s perpetual calendar indicates day, date, astronomical moon, month, leap year, in addition to night and day, hours and minutes.

The challenge in the creation has been to re-engineer a three-storey movement into a single level. This patented system features a record- shattering 2.89 mm central rotor. At just 6.30 mm, the redesigned case shaves almost 2 mm off the Royal Oak Extra-Thin Jumbo.

The 5133 calibre features a 40-hour power reserve, and a frequency of 2.75 Hz / 19’800 vibrations pattern per hour. It is hosted in a 950 platinum case with RD#2 engraved on the caseback, glareproofed sapphire crystal, and water-resistant to 20 meters. Also the bracelet, with AP folding clasp, is in 950 platinum. Finally, the dial is blue with “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, blue counters, white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating.

An exceptional evolution of a timeless icon.
